My name is Daniel Leyten and painting saved my life. For years I lived in the grip of alcoholism, desperately wanting to be free but never knowing how. When I finally reached my bottom, and left alcohol behind for good, I embraced life in a way I never had before, and for the first time since childhood I began to see beauty in the world again. I had always wanted to paint, but it wasn’t until I embraced life again that I finally picked up a brush. I committed to doing a painting a day, and in that rhythm I discovered a passion that became my lifeline. With each canvas I was falling in love, with color, with light, and with the creative act itself, and most of all, with life.

As the years went on, painting became more than expression, it became communion. I began to feel as though the work wasn’t entirely coming from me, but through me, as if I had opened a channel to something greater. A divine connection revealed itself in the process, and faces, visions, and energies would emerge from the canvas as if they had been waiting there all along. I learned to listen, to step back, and to let the work unfold with a force that felt both mysterious and inevitable.

My art now exists at the meeting point of recovery, spirituality, and creative discovery. Each painting is a testament to that journey of struggle and surrender, of transformation and renewal, of learning to see and celebrate the sacred beauty in life again.
